GoHighLevel for trades: is an agency CRM right for you?

GoHighLevel (HighLevel) is a marketing CRM built for agencies: funnels, websites, SMS and email campaigns, missed-call text-back and pipelines. Plans start at 97 US dollars a month, with phone, SMS, email and AI billed on top. It suits trade firms that run paid ads and chase volume leads. It does not quote, schedule engineers, cost jobs or invoice.

What is GoHighLevel, in plain terms?

GoHighLevel is a sales and marketing platform. Its own pricing page lists the core features on every plan: a CRM with pipelines, a website and funnel builder, online reputation management, email and SMS marketing, and calling. Agencies use it to run campaigns for many clients at once, each in its own "sub-account".

For a trade firm, that means one inbox for enquiries from your website form, Facebook and Google, automatic texts back to missed calls, review requests after a job, and follow-up sequences for quotes that went quiet. It is built around getting and converting leads. What happens after the customer says yes (the job, the materials, the invoice) sits outside it.

Why do so many trades hear about it from agencies?

Because HighLevel's plans are designed for resale. The pricing page aims Starter at "smaller businesses and solo marketers" and the Unlimited and Agency Pro plans at agencies, with features to rebill phone and email usage to clients and, on Agency Pro, to add a markup and run it under the agency's own brand ("SaaS mode").

So when a lead-gen agency sells you "a CRM, a website and an app", there's a fair chance it is a GoHighLevel sub-account with the agency's logo on it. That isn't a problem in itself. It does mean you are paying for the software, the usage and the agency's time in one bill, and you may not own the account if you leave.

I've got literally nothing this month from my marketing guys.
Owner, boiler and air conditioning installer, London, with admin staff and a VA

That firm was paying £1,200 to £1,800 a month for about 60 leads, and spending the rest of the day logging into different systems. Their problem was two-sided: not enough good leads, and 50 enquiries meaning 50 quotes and 50 supplier emails. A CRM can help with the first part. It can't write the quotes.

What does GoHighLevel cost a year?

Starter is 97 US dollars a month or 970 US dollars a year, Unlimited 297 US dollars or 2,970 US dollars, and Agency Pro 497 US dollars or 4,970 US dollars, as listed on HighLevel's pricing page in October 2026. The prices are shown in dollars. Every plan has a 14-day free trial that rolls into billing unless you cancel.

The subscription is the floor. Phone numbers, call minutes, SMS, email and AI features are billed from a prepaid "wallet" that tops itself up from your card.

Worked example

Running GoHighLevel yourself for a year, Starter plan

A heating firm runs its own account on Starter, billed annually, with WhatsApp switched on and about 2,000 marketing emails a month.

Starter subscription, annual billing97 US dollars × 12 = 1,164 US dollars, less two months970 US dollars
WhatsApp add-on10 US dollars × 12 months120 US dollars
LC Email24,000 emails × 0.675 US dollars per 1,00016.20 US dollars

Compare that with what you pay an agency now. The firms we speak to quote agency fees of £300 to £750 a month, which is £3,600 to £9,000 a year. If the agency is doing ad management and creative as well, part of that is fair. If it is mostly the software and a few automations, you are paying a lot for setup you could own.

Who in the trades does it suit?

GoHighLevel earns its keep in a firm with a marketing engine to feed it. You spend on Google or Meta ads, you get enough enquiries that some go unanswered, and you have someone (you, an office person or an agency) who will build and maintain the automations.

It suits a domestic installer selling the same thing over and over, such as boilers, air conditioning, solar or driveways, where speed of reply decides who wins. A missed-call text in two minutes and a follow-up sequence for quotes that went quiet are the features that pay.

It suits a firm less well when work comes by referral and repeat customers, when most enquiries arrive on WhatsApp from people who already know you, or when the bottleneck is the admin after the enquiry. An account full of tools nobody has time to set up does nothing.

Start on the 14-day trial with your own account, connect your enquiry channels, and switch on missed-call text-back and quote follow-ups first. Measure replies and wins for a month.

You may not need it

If you already answer fast, a CRM adds little. Look at what slows you down after the enquiry: quoting, scheduling or invoicing.

Fix the setup question first

An unconfigured GoHighLevel account does nothing. Either budget for an agency to run it, with ownership in writing, or choose a tool that works without building automations.

Probably not the right tool

Referral and repeat work rarely needs a marketing CRM. Spend the effort on replying fast and keeping job records in one place.

What doesn't GoHighLevel do for a trade firm?

It isn't job management software. There's no price list built from merchant invoices, no take-offs, no job costing, no engineer scheduling with job sheets, no gas or electrical certificates, no CIS. Invoices and payments exist for taking money from a funnel, which is different from running stage payments and retentions on an extension.

So trade firms that use it usually run a second system as well: Tradify, Fergus, ServiceM8 or similar for jobs, and Xero or QuickBooks for the books. That's three logins and three bills, and data copied between them by hand or through Zapier. See the best job management software for UK trades for that side, and best invoicing apps for UK trades if invoicing is the gap.

What should you check before signing up?

Price, ownership and the rules on messaging customers.

Before you sign up, yourself or through an agency

Automated review requests and "we haven't heard from you" texts to past customers are marketing. Set them up with consent in mind, or the software will happily break the rules for you at scale. If you're unsure about a campaign, the ICO's small business guidance is the place to start.

Where Nexley fits

Nexley is the AI back office for UK trade firms: five AI assistants run your tenders, quotes, buying, scheduling and invoicing. It connects to the tools you already work in, you run it all from WhatsApp, and you approve everything. £799 a month.

For enquiries, Nexley answers and logs messages from WhatsApp, email and your website, drafts the reply and the quote from your price list, and chases quotes that went quiet, all over WhatsApp with you approving each one. It covers the back office after the lead too: supplier bills, job costs and invoices. Nexley is £799 a month, month to month, with a 7-day free trial. It doesn't run ad campaigns or build funnels, so a firm buying leads at volume may still want a marketing tool.

Common questions

How is Nexley different from a job management app?

A job app is a better filing system: it holds your jobs, and you still do the quoting, invoicing and chasing. Nexley does that work. Five AI assistants draft your quotes, invoices, supplier orders, replies and tenders overnight from your own prices and your Xero, and you approve each one in WhatsApp. It's the office help you'd otherwise hire, for £799 a month against about £2,358 a month for a full-time admin.

Is GoHighLevel available in the UK?

Yes, HighLevel sells to UK businesses, but its pricing page and help centre quote in US dollars. UK phone and SMS rates are in country price files on its help centre, so check those before you work out a budget.

Is GoHighLevel the same as job management software?

No. It handles marketing and lead follow-up: funnels, campaigns, a pipeline and messaging. Quoting from a price list, scheduling engineers, job costing and certificates belong to job management software such as Tradify or Fergus.

Can I leave an agency and keep my GoHighLevel account?

That depends on how the agency set it up and what your contract says. Ask in writing who owns the sub-account and data, and whether they will transfer it to your own HighLevel account before you sign.

Is GoHighLevel worth it for a sole trader?

Rarely, unless you're spending on ads and losing leads to slow replies. Most sole traders get more from replying faster and keeping quotes and invoices in one place than from a marketing CRM.
