Commusoft alternatives for heating firms
The main Commusoft alternatives for UK heating firms are Gas Engineer Software (£18 to £30 per user a month), Tradify (£34 to £44 per user), Joblogic (from £49 per user, billed annually) and ServiceM8 (£25 to £269 a month by job volume). Commusoft doesn't publish prices, so get a written quote with the contract length before you compare.
Why do heating firms look for a Commusoft alternative?
Usually for price, contract length or size. Commusoft is a full platform aimed at established heating firms, and some smaller firms find it more than they need. Competitors' comparison pages, from Joblogic and Gas Engineer Software, say Commusoft runs 12-month contracts and is designed for firms of six or more. Those are rivals' claims, so ask Commusoft to confirm its terms in writing.
Commusoft's own site describes job costing from labour, materials and overhead, quote templates, cost tracking and engineer scheduling for heating, HVAC, plumbing and renewables businesses. It's a serious product. The question is whether you use enough of it to justify the cost.
What are the alternatives, and who does each suit?
Here are the options with published prices, as of October 2026, from each vendor's own page.
| Tool | Price a month | Contract | Built for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Commusoft | On request | Ask for it in writing | Established heating and plumbing firms |
| Gas Engineer Software | £18 to £30 per user | Rolling monthly | Owner-led gas and heating firms |
| Tradify | £34, £37 or £44 per user | Month to month | General trades, domestic crews |
| Joblogic | From £49 per user | Annual | Commercial maintenance, F-gas, PPM |
| ServiceM8 | £25 to £269 by jobs | None | Bigger teams, fewer jobs |
Gas Engineer Software covers homeowner and landlord gas safety certificates, warning notices, service and breakdown records, commissioning checklists, non-domestic records, oil (CD/10 to CD/14), unvented cylinders and air source heat pump service records. It reads Kane, Anton and TPI analysers over Bluetooth and works offline. Accounting sync to Xero, QuickBooks and Sage is on Pro. More in Gas Engineer Software: what it does and what to pair it with.
Joblogic suits firms with commercial service contracts: SLAs, a 52-week planned maintenance planner, asset registers, and F-gas records built with REFCOM. Most customers commit to 24 or 36 months. See Joblogic alternatives.
Tradify is a general trade tool with compliance certificates on Pro and service reminders on Plus. ServiceM8 has unlimited users on paid plans; see ServiceM8 alternatives.
What would each cost a six-engineer heating firm?
On per-user pricing, headcount drives the bill. ServiceM8 is the exception: it's priced by jobs.
Six engineers plus one office login, about 140 jobs a month
Seven people need access. Published prices, October 2026, before VAT where stated.
| Gas Engineer Software Pro7 × £30 | £210 |
| Tradify Plus, for service reminders7 × £44 | £308 |
| Joblogic Standard, billed annually7 × £49 | £343 |
| ServiceM8 Growing150 jobs, unlimited users | £59 |
| Gas Engineer Software Pro over a year£210 × 12 | £2,520 |
| Joblogic Standard over a year£343 × 12 | £4,116 |
The cheapest isn't automatically right. A gas firm that issues landlord safety records daily needs those forms to be quick on site, and that's worth more than £150 a month.
What should a heating firm test before switching?
The forms and reminders you rely on every day. Test them with real jobs during the trial, not a demo.
Years of customer and certificate history is often what keeps a firm on software it has outgrown, especially if the system has no open API. Ask about exports before you sign, not when you leave.
Is the job software the real problem?
Sometimes it's the quoting and admin around it. For example, a heating and air con firm with 20 air con quotes stacked up for the weekend has a quoting problem, not a scheduling one.
Job software won't write those quotes. If your evenings go on quotes, supplier bills and chasing, read do you need job management software if you use AI before you pay for a bigger system.
Where Nexley fits
Nexley is the AI back office for UK trade firms: five AI assistants run your tenders, quotes, buying, scheduling and invoicing. It connects to the tools you already work in, you run it all from WhatsApp, and you approve everything. £799 a month.
Nexley works alongside Commusoft or any of these tools. Over WhatsApp it drafts heating and air con quotes from your price list and a voice note, files supplier bills against the job, chases unpaid invoices and helps with RAMS. You approve every quote before it goes. It doesn't issue gas certificates, so keep a certificate tool.
Common questions
How is Nexley different from a job management app?
A job app is a better filing system: it holds your jobs, and you still do the quoting, invoicing and chasing. Nexley does that work. Five AI assistants draft your quotes, invoices, supplier orders, replies and tenders overnight from your own prices and your Xero, and you approve each one in WhatsApp. It's the office help you'd otherwise hire, for £799 a month against about £2,358 a month for a full-time admin.
How much does Commusoft cost?
Commusoft doesn't publish prices on its website; you book a call for a quote. Ask for the per-user price, minimum users, onboarding fees and contract length in writing.
Does Commusoft have a 12-month contract?
Competitors' comparison pages say so, but we couldn't confirm it on Commusoft's own site. Ask Commusoft directly and check the order form before you sign.
What's the best Commusoft alternative for a small gas firm?
For a one-to-five engineer domestic gas business, Gas Engineer Software is the closest match on certificates and price, at £18 to £30 per user as of October 2026. Test the forms you issue most during its 14-day trial.
Can I move my customers from Commusoft?
Usually yes, by exporting customers as a CSV and importing them. Gas Engineer Software says it can bulk import customers. Job history and certificates are harder to move, so keep a full export.
