ServiceM8 alternatives for UK trades

The main ServiceM8 alternatives for UK trades are Tradify (from £34 per user a month), Gas Engineer Software (£18 to £30 per user), Joblogic (from £49 per user, billed annually) and Fergus. ServiceM8 itself charges by jobs a month, from £25 for 50 jobs with unlimited users, so it stays cheap for big teams doing few jobs and gets dearer as volume grows.

Why do UK firms look for a ServiceM8 alternative?

Most switch for one of three reasons: the job count pushes them into a dearer plan, they need trade certificates or contract features ServiceM8 doesn't cover natively, or the team works on Android and wants the full app on every phone. Check which one applies to you, because each points to a different alternative.

ServiceM8's own help centre says paid plans "use plan-based pricing, not per-user pricing" and that there are "no contracts, setup fees or 'per-user' fees". That is a fair deal for a six-van firm doing 40 jobs a month. It's a worse one for a two-person drainage firm doing 200 call-outs, because volume, not headcount, decides the bill.

Software frustration came up often on our sales calls. One owner summed up the problem of tools that don't join up:

Logins, logins, logins.
Owner, boiler and air conditioning installer, London

What does ServiceM8 cost in the UK?

As of October 2026, ServiceM8's UK pricing page lists five plans, all with unlimited users except Free.

PlanA monthJobs a month
Free£030 (one user)
Starter£2550
Growing£59150
Premium£119500
Premium Plus£2691,500+

Extra jobs are only offered on Premium Plus, at 15p each. Text messages beyond the allowance cost 5p each. The pricing page doesn't say whether the figures include VAT, so ask before you budget. ServiceM8 Phone, the optional calls add-on, is £15 a month for 500 minutes on a month-to-month basis.

What are the main alternatives, and who does each suit?

Pick on how you charge and what paperwork you produce, not on feature count. Here is how the alternatives compare on price and fit, from each vendor's page as of October 2026.

ToolPrice modelPriceContractBest for
ServiceM8Jobs a month£25 to £269NoneLarger teams, modest job count
TradifyPer user£34, £37 or £44Month to monthSmall domestic crews, quotes and invoices
Gas Engineer SoftwarePer user£18 to £30Month to monthGas and heating, certificates
JoblogicPer userFrom £49AnnualMaintenance contracts, PPM, assets
FergusPer user£39 or £45Month to monthPlumbing and electrical job costing
NexleyFlat£799Month to monthOwner doing admin at night

The difference. These apps hold the jobs; you still do the office work. Nexley does that work for you: quotes, invoices, chasing, supplier bills and tenders, drafted overnight from your own prices and your Xero, waiting for your yes in WhatsApp. It works alongside the app you already have.

Tradify. Three published tiers: Lite at £34, Pro at £37 and Plus at £44 per user a month, with a 14-day trial and no contract. Pro adds branding, progress invoicing, timesheets and costing; Plus adds purchase orders and AI bill reading. It suits sole traders and small crews doing reactive domestic work. If you're comparing it to us, see Nexley vs Tradify.

Gas Engineer Software. Starter £18 per user (annual) or £19 (monthly), Core and Pro above it, with Pro at £30 adding Xero, QuickBooks and Sage sync. It includes landlord gas safety records, warning notices and service records, and reads Kane, Anton and TPI analysers over Bluetooth. Built for heating firms; see what it does and what to pair it with.

Joblogic. Standard is from £49 per user a month, billed annually. Joblogic's pricing page says most customers commit to 24 or 36 months, with 12 months on request. It's built for planned maintenance, SLAs, asset registers and F-gas records, so it suits commercial service firms more than domestic ones. Read the contract first: Joblogic alternatives without a 12-month contract covers what to ask.

Fergus. A per-user job management tool aimed at trades; its Xero listing shows two-way sync of invoices and credit notes. Its UK pricing page lists Essentials at £39 and Professional at £45 a month, on monthly billing with no lock-in, but doesn't say whether that's per user, so ask before you compare it with per-user tools. See Fergus alternatives.

Which works out cheapest for your firm?

It depends on two numbers: people who need a login and jobs a month. Per-user tools get dearer as you hire; ServiceM8 gets dearer as you get busier.

Worked example

A four-person heating firm doing 120 jobs a month

Three engineers and the owner all need the app. Prices from vendor pages, October 2026, before VAT where stated.

ServiceM8 Growing150 jobs, unlimited users£59
Tradify Pro4 users × £37£148
Gas Engineer Software Pro4 users × £30£120
Joblogic Standard4 users × £49, billed annually£196
Gap between cheapest and dearest a month£196 − £59£137
Gap over a year£137 × 12£1,644
Same firm at 180 jobs a month moves ServiceM8 to Premium at £119, still the cheapest. At two users and 400 jobs, Gas Engineer Software Pro is £60 against ServiceM8 Premium at £119. Joblogic's £196 is billed annually, so it ties you in for at least 12 months, £2,352 a year; the others here can be paid monthly.

Price is only part of it. A firm doing landlord gas safety records every day will lose more time on the wrong certificate workflow than it saves on the subscription.

What should you check before you switch?

Before you move off ServiceM8

Do you need job management software at all?

Not always. Job software is a diary, a job card and an invoice. If your problem is the evening admin around it, quoting, supplier bills and chasing, a different tool may fit better. We cover that question in do you need job management software if you use AI, and the wider list of admin tasks worth taking off your plate in admin automation software for trades.

Where Nexley fits

Nexley is the AI back office for UK trade firms: five AI assistants run your tenders, quotes, buying, scheduling and invoicing. It connects to the tools you already work in, you run it all from WhatsApp, and you approve everything. £799 a month.

Nexley sits alongside ServiceM8 or replaces the admin side of it. You send a voice note or photo on WhatsApp, and Nexley drafts the quote, logs the supplier bill against the job and chases unpaid invoices. You check and approve each one before it goes. It's £799 a month, month to month, with a 7-day free trial.

Common questions

How is Nexley different from a job management app?

A job app is a better filing system: it holds your jobs, and you still do the quoting, invoicing and chasing. Nexley does that work. Five AI assistants draft your quotes, invoices, supplier orders, replies and tenders overnight from your own prices and your Xero, and you approve each one in WhatsApp. It's the office help you'd otherwise hire, for £799 a month against about £2,358 a month for a full-time admin.

Is ServiceM8 free?

There is a Free plan for one user with 30 jobs a month. Paid plans start at £25 a month for 50 jobs with unlimited users, as of October 2026. Most working firms outgrow the free plan in the first month.

Does ServiceM8 have a contract?

ServiceM8's help centre says there are no contracts or setup fees and you can change plan or cancel at any time. Check the current terms on their site before you sign up.

What is the best ServiceM8 alternative for gas engineers?

Gas Engineer Software is built for heating firms and includes landlord gas safety records, warning notices and analyser links. Tradify also offers compliance certificates on its Pro plan. Test the exact forms you issue during the trial.

Can I move my data from ServiceM8 to another system?

You can usually export customers and jobs as files and import customers into the new system. Job history and attachments rarely move cleanly, so keep a full backup of your old account.
